Candle Care Guide

Candle Care Guide

Our candles are designed to be more than just a light source—they’re a ritual.

Proper care ensures a clean burn, stronger scent throw, and a longer-lasting candle experience.

Get the most out of your Wakefield and Wicks candles with these simple care tips. Proper candle care ensures a clean, even burn and extends the life of your candle.

First Burn is Important

Burn for 2-4 hours: On your first burn, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container. This creates a "memory ring" and prevents tunneling in future burns.

Never burn for less than 1 hour: Short burns can cause tunneling and waste wax.

Wick Maintenance

Trim the wick: Before each burn, trim the wick to 5mm (¼ inch). This prevents smoking, soot buildup, and ensures a clean, steady flame.

Remove debris: If you notice any wick trimmings or debris in the wax, remove them before lighting.

Burning Guidelines

Burn time: Don't burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow it to cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.

Keep the wax pool clear: Remove any wick trimmings or matches from the wax pool.

Stop burning when: Discontinue use when only 1cm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom.

Safety Tips

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Keep away from drafts, children, and pets
  • Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface
  • Keep away from flammable materials
  • Don't move a burning candle or one with hot wax
  • Extinguish with a snuffer or by dipping the wick into the wax, then straightening

Storage

Keep cool and dry: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and melting.

Cover when not in use: Use the lid provided to keep dust out and preserve the fragrance.
